Where is the Truth?
Where is the truth in our world today?
, by Emmanuel Higgins
Our world is becoming more and more corrupt and wicked, where is the truth? Where do we draw the line between right and wrong? There are thousands of people who claim "I have the truth", but they can't all be right because they so often contradict each other. Is it any wonder that the majority of youth in our world today are giving up trying to do what is right, when there is so much difference in opinion and hypocrisy in those who they look up to.
But there MUST be a way to find what is truly right. If there is no certain way to find the truth then what hope or purpose have we in living?
Think about this.... a group of 10 scientists are working together to develop a new technology, and all of them are convinced that their ideas are the best, what do they do? Do they despair and give up because there is division between them? It is true that all 10 of the scientists can't all have the best plans. There is only one "best" idea. So what did they do? They tested all the different plans and found that 9 of them failed! And that one of the scientists had it right.
The key for us to find the truth is to TEST it.
There are many books that people claim as inspired, but are they true? In amongst all these books, the Bible stands out from them all.
In actual fact the principle of testing all things is found in the Bible itself!
1 Thessalonians 5:21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
In other words, prove or test all things so that you can find out what is good and true and then when you have found something good, hold fast to it.
Lets see what the Bible says about itself:
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
The bible claims that all it (the scriptures) is written by inspiration of God. Wait a minute! That means that God inspired or directed every word in the Bible to be written. So if God had such a role to play in the writing of the Bible, then we should be able to believe what is written in it as truth. But lets look a little closer and do some testing.
Q. what does the Bible say truth is?
John 17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
According to this text, "thy word" or the word of God as written in the Bible is truth. But can we believe this? Or do we need to do some more testing? Notice what the truth does in the above text. It says that through the truth we are sanctified. But what does sanctify mean? The dictionary says that to sanctify means to make holy or clean. So according to this text (remember we are testing it) the truth written in the bible helps us to live a clean life and to do what is right!
Do you want to know if the Bible is truly inspired? Do you want to find out if this book is really the word of God and that God cannot lie? Do you want to live a clean life and to do what is right. If you want to truly test the Bible, then follow these steps:
- Pick up an original Bible (King James Version) or download one online.
- Read a portion of it every day for three or four weeks. Before reading, ask God to show you whether or not the Bible can be trusted.
- And then ask yourself has this helped me live a better life? Can I see the effect of the truth in my life? Because if the Bible is all truth as it claims to be, then as you read it will change your life.
