All Power with One Problem
One Solution to your Problems
,
Think about all you the problems that you have for a moment. Weaknesses, bad character traits, mistakes, financial problems, debts... the list is just endless!
What if you could somehow come up with a secret way in which all those problems could be reduced to one problem? One problem. Would you go for it?
Well friends, there is such a solution. And guess what? Its not secret! We will unpack this idea in a moment. But first, let's size up the problems at hand. In order to conquer something, how much power do you need? If I was to go now a wrestle with Samson the strongest man recorded in the Bible, how much strength would I need? A greater amount then Samson, right? Would equal power work? No, it would be a draw.
So, if we're going to conquer all these problems we have, how much power is needed? Do we have that power? Have we solved them all yet? Obviously we don't!
Romans 8:35,37
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us."
The Bible is certain that we can have the power here, it says that we are "more than conquerors!" How is this possible? Through Him that loved us.
John 1:12
"But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name."
So what does God give us? Power to become sons and daughters of God. What does it mean to a child of God?
Acts 17:28
For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.
God gives us, life, breath, and all things. Does that exclude anything? So, how many things do we give ourselves? Nothing! Nothing at all, zero.
Psa 36:9
"For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light."
Everything you have and can have comes from God. Take a deep breath. That breath came from God. Every time you feel your heart beat, that's the power of God sustaining you. God is the source of everything we need.
So, why do we worry about things we need? Why do we have all these problems if God is supplying everything we need?
Interesting question, isn't it?
Lets think for a moment about a young child. When he wakes up in the morning, does he think, "Oh no, the power bill is due today, I wonder how we are going to get the money to pay it?" or "I wonder if there's enough food today?" or maybe, "humm...I hope the price of petrol hasn't gone up too much today..." Does he do that? Why not? He trusts his father and mother! Complete trust. Does he ever doubt that there will be food on the table today? No, he doesn't. That child only has one problem. Choice. He has to choose to accept what his parents give him.
Let's move this into the spiritual realm. We are all sons and daughter of God, correct? The Bible just told us that. So, should we be worrying, about all the things we need? All the problems we have? No, that's His department! But not only does God supply our external needs, our very ability to do anything comes from Him. So with God, we have only one problem: and that is, Choice. That's it. We must choose to accept Him. It is the power of the will.
Rev 3:20
"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
Our will is like a door. God is wanting to give us everything we need. But we have to open the door and let him in! Its like a fountain that's flowing all the time. We just have to open the door to let it in.
You know God has a door too. The Bible says in Revelation 3:8, "behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it." God's door is always open friends!
Another word for this is faith. Faith believes that God is the source of all power and that he will take care of our needs. Faith goes beyond just a mental assent. It acts accordingly.
But in order to trust someone, you must get to know then, right? How do we get to know God? In the same way you get to know a friend on earth. Spend time with him. Talk to him. Study his written word, the Bible, and sing praises to him. All these things will lift your mind to heaven and enable you to trust God better.
In summery: We are helpless as a child trying to pay his Dad's bills, when it comes to solving our own problems. I mean, lets face it, How many times have you managed to successfully work through a problem without God? We make a mess of it every time. Once we recognise that we are children of God, we discover that as-a-matter-of-fact we have only one problem. That is our choice. The power of the will.
Lets close with a paragraph from one of my favourite books, Steps to Christ.
"Many are inquiring, "How am I to make the surrender of myself to God?" You desire to give yourself to Him, but you are weak in moral power, in slavery to doubt, and controlled by the habits of your life of sin. Your promises and resolutions are like ropes of sand. You cannot control your thoughts, your impulses, your affections. The knowledge of your broken promises and forfeited pledges weakens your confidence in your own sincerity, and causes you to feel that God cannot accept you..." Steps to Christ pg. 47
This is the condition we find ourselves in when we are trying to solve all these problems.
"...but you need not despair. What you need to understand is the true force of the will. This is the governing power in the nature of man, the power of decision, or of choice. Everything depends on the right action of the will. The power of choice God has given to men; it is theirs to exercise. You cannot change your heart, you cannot of yourself give to God its affections; but you can choose to serve Him. You can give Him your will; He will then work in you to will and to do according to His good pleasure. Thus your whole nature will be brought under the control of the Spirit of Christ; your affections will be centered upon Him, your thoughts will be in harmony with Him." Steps to Christ pg. 47
Friends, I challenge you today, try God out. Put your will on the side of God. Because it's not until we realise our utter helplessness in solving our own problems that God can help us.
So there you have it. Isn't God good? He's provided us with the very best possible means of not only salvation, but in helping us through life's difficulties. So let's take God up on his offer. Spend time with Him every day, so we can have a daily experience with Him, and choose to act accordingly.
We will then have All Power with no problem!

Thanks Joel. So very true. We need to be reminded of the Lordship of our God time and again because we are so prone to forget He is control. Thank you so much for this powerful reminder.

Wow, that verse in Romans 8 is powerful! Just to ponder on the fact that nothing - absolutely nothing in this life can separate us from God's everlasting love! What a thought to start the day on! Thanks, Joel!
