Who is Like God?
The True and Living God!
, by Emmanuel Higgins
Have you ever gazed up at a starry night and wondered, what is God really like? Does He see me right now?
Ancient religious, like the Egyptians and the Greeks had a myriad of different 'gods', and even today different religions have their different gods. But what is the true God like? And what sets the God of the Bible apart from all other false gods?
In Psalms 135:15-17 the Bible speaks about false gods in this way:
The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;
They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.
False gods do not hear us, they don't see us and they can't speak to us. But what does the Bible say? .
Jeremiah 10:10 But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king
God is not deaf! He is not blind or dumb, no, He is the living God! The true God and the everlasting King! But lets read from Psalms 113, which really shows how amazing and wonderful God is:
Psalms 113:5-8
Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high,
Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven, and in the earth!
He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill;
That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.
Just stop for a moment and think about how enormous and powerful God is. . . . . . . . . . .
The entire expanse of the universe with millions of galaxies, and billions and trillions of stars and solar systems with the many beautiful nebulae were all created with just the voice God! (see Psalms 33:6 ) The delicate flowers, and birds, the numerous varieties of trees and plants, and the many different animals were all masterfully created by God. Everything right down to the intricate wonders of a single cell in our body were created by the powerful God.
God created all this, and He dwells on high in heaven, yet what does the Bible say in Psalms 113? "who humbleth himself to behold the things in heaven and in earth!" What an incredible verse. The all powerful God and everlasting King humbles Himself and stoops to behold, or see the things that happen on this earth! How much grief it must cause Him, to see the wicked things that go on in this world! Yet He still watches over each one of us!
How much love God must have for us! He not only humbles Himself to see what we are going through but He raises up the poor and needy and sets them with princes. God may not physically remove us from our poor condition, but He will raise our soul up into a heavenly atmosphere of peace, joy and love!
Ephesians 2:4-6
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Because of the great love of God, Jesus came to save us from our sins, and to quicken us, or to give us life, and then to raise us up and make us to sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus! We can't physically sit in heaven with Jesus now, but Christ can dwell in our hearts and fill us with His goodness.
And its God's love for us, His great sacrifice to save the people He created and loved, and it is His personal interest in each of our lives that makes Him the only true and living God and that sets Him aside from all other false gods. He is the only one worthy of our adoration and praise!
So remember, God cares for you, He sees you right where you are now, and remember that the same all powerful God who created all things, longs to save you and I and every one from sin and it's sure result, death.
Keep fast hold on Jesus. Look up to the haven of rest and the home of the blest. Keep your soul in the love of God whatever may betide, and you will grow spiritually strong. Jesus is your loving Friend; He will take your hand and help you over every hard and trying place. A grateful, trustful, habitual recognition of God lies at the very foundation of all right conduct, all true character. You must never lose confidence in God. - The Upward Look p. 276
May God bless you!
