What is Life Eternal?
Salvation in the Simplest Language
, by Emmanuel Higgins
What is salvation, or life eternal? How would you say it in the simplest language?
In fact, Jesus Himself sums it up in just two words. He says:
"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." - John 17:3
Put in the simplest language, life eternal is to "know God". If we know God, we have life eternal!
We can know all the Bible prophecies, the fundamental doctrines of the Bible, the signs of the end as foretold in the Bible, we can know all there is to know about how to keep our bodies healthy, and all this knowledge is good and certainly God wants us to know these things, but if we don't know God, we don't have life eternal!
In fact, if you're like me, it's easy to look good in the eyes of others. Yes, there was a time when I could proudly hold my head up and tell others the truth of the second coming of Jesus, the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation, solemn important truths, and yet deep down, I didn't truly know God. You see, a mere intellectual assent to the truth will not save us. When it all boils down, life eternal is not just to know about God, but to actually know Him... as a friend.
So, what does that mean? How do I find that experience, and gain that experimental knowledge of God?
Stay tuned, as we study this further next week.

Thanks Emmanuel, it's good to be reminded of these things. It's just like a marriage...you must put forward effort to stay in touch with your spouse. Otherwise it's ends up like ships passing in the night! If we treat God in the same way (just too busy to spend time with Him) it's little wonder that we loose track of him!
